Anonymous asked: What precautions should be taken to avoid injury by falling or by improper technique?
Hi there, excellent question, and great you’re asking this…
Firstly, if at all possible, train at least the basics with a certified AcroYoga teacher…this is crucial as if you start with poor technique, it’s much much harder to correct later, and as you say, it can be a matter of injury for yourself or others!
Second, practice “accurate self assessment” and if needs be, practice in groups of THREE so there is always one spotter.
AcroYoga is fundamentally a community practice, and three is the smallest community possible, and creates possibilities impossible practicing with just two people!
Lastly, once having grounded yourself in the fundamentals of the practice with an experienced teacher, always practice “accurate self assessment” in what and how you train. Learn to “play your edge” to find maximum challenge, growth and FUN without carelessly going for something you’re not confident with. There is SO MUCH richness and technique in the simplest of things, it just requires slowing down and sensitising to the details.
In paying attention to the little things, the bigger things suddenly become possible :-)
Good luck on your journey!
